Minnesota North College’s Hibbing Campus to Host Technical Career Day

Hibbing, MN: On Friday September 30th, 250 high school students from 20 of the region’s high schools will be invited to Minnesota North College’s Technical Career day at the Hibbing Campus.  The event will run from 9:30am-1:30pm.

Students will get the opportunity to experience unique sessions where they will be exposed to different technical career programs the Hibbing campus, and of the technical career programming Minnesota North College’s six campuses have to offer.

“This event is a great way to expose local high school students to a variety of different Technical Career Education Opportunities and also showcase the unique programs available at Minnesota North College!” Jessie Matvey, Enrollment Specialist at Minnesota North College’s Hibbing campus.

“This event will also give us the chance to highlight the affordability of Minnesota North College programs, and their outcomes in terms of employability and potential wages you can earn upon graduation through a technical career pathway”, said Trent Janezich, Executive Director of Advancement and Customized Training Solutions.  “There are also significant scholarship dollars available locally for high school students if they attend our college.  These scholarships, make such a difference in the lives of our students.”

Two of these scholarships are:

Workforce Development Scholarship $2,500
The Minnesota Legislature has provided funding for hundreds of $2,500 scholarships at the 30 community and technical colleges of Minnesota State in the high-demand fields of:

  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Agriculture
  • Health Care Services
  • Information Technology
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Transportation

Students are awarded $1250 fall and $1250 spring semester, must be a Minnesota resident, must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and must maintain 9+ credits and a 2.0 GPA at the time of disbursement. Scholarships will apply to academic year 2022-2023 student accounts.

St. Louis County Mineral Royalties Scholarship $750-$1,500
Recipients must have received a high school diploma or equivalent while they were a resident of Saint Louis County, MN. Preference will be given to students pursuing educational pathways in designated degree programs that may lead to direct employment opportunities in the region. Scholarships are awarded on a first come basis.
