The TRIO Upward Bound Mesabi Range – Virginia Campus program provides year-round academic support services to prepare high school students to successfully transition into college with a goal of completing post-secondary education. Mesabi Upward Bound serves students at these high schools: Cherry, ERATS, Rock Ridge, Mesabi East, Mt. Iron-Buhl, Northeast Range School, Memorial High School

Students are able to receive the support they need to be successful.

Mesabi Upward Bound (UB) is located at Minnesota North College’s Mesabi Range – Virginia campus and provides support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their high school performance and ultimately in their post-secondary pursuits.

History

Mesabi Upward Bound was formed in the fall of 2003 and has since been dedicated to assisting first generation high school students in reaching their goals of attending college. Upward Bound is committed to promoting the values of student success, responsibility, and personal and professional development.

Upward Bound helps students reach their full potential both in and out of the classroom. Upward Bound provides services such as free tutoring; experiences that broaden student’s academic and cultural knowledge and experiences; trips to colleges; as well as payment for standardized testing. Students receive stipends during the year for maintaining good grades and participating in monthly activities.
