Mesabi Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) located at the Mesabi Range campus is a specialized Upward Bound focused on fostering the math and science skills of its participants. Upward Bound Math and Science also serves high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree; and high school students from families who meet federal TRIO income guidelines. The goal of Upward Bound Math and Science is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue post-secondary degrees in STEM careers.

Mesabi Upward Bound Math & Science was formed in the fall of 2007. This program is geared towards those students who have an interest in STEM fields, but this is not required for program participation.

Benefits of the program:

  • All services are provided FREE to participants
  • One-on-one assistance with high school, college, and career planning
  • Monthly activities (service learning, sporting events, college preparation, etc.)
  • Opportunity to participate in a six week summer program with instruction from high-school instructors
  • Live on a college campus with other local high school students
  • One week trip to conclude the summer program
  • Earn money for good grades and participation in the program.
