Minnesota North College welcomed over 200 students from 12 regional high schools for the Region II FFA Career Development Events (CDE). The competition provided students with the opportunity to showcase their skills in Forestry, Agricultural Sales, Crops, and BIG (Best Informed Greenhand) as they competed for a chance to qualify for the national tournament.
FFA has a long and rich history in Minnesota, dating back to 1930 when the state chartered its first chapters as part of the National FFA Organization. Since then, FFA has played a vital role in shaping young leaders in agriculture, agribusiness, and natural resources. Through hands-on learning and competitions like the CDEs, students develop critical skills that prepare them for careers in these ever-evolving industries.
“I learned about good business and the importance of relationship building and being confident in what you are saying while selling,” said Caroline Hopkins, who is in the Brainerd chapter. She competed in the Agricultural Sales competition.
Her classmate Emmy Yaunick competed in Forestry. “I learned how different diseases could affect trees and the many opportunities for jobs after school in forestry!”
By participating in these events, students gained valuable hands-on experience and insights into potential career paths in the industry. Local partners in forestry tabled at the event and shared valuable insights with the students. Congratulations to Region II!
