About Our Program
Career Opportunities
Each EMS certificate is a stand-alone program that can help students obtain a career in emergency medical services. Many professional careers also benefit from having individuals trained in emergency services and look for employees who have completed some level of EMS training. Certificates are designed to prepare you for various emergency medical situations. Some degrees that benefit from an EMS Certificate include Ambulance Service, Search and Rescue Squad Member, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Fireline EMT, First Responder, Emergency Service Specialist, Search and Rescue Specialist, Law Enforcement, Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Recreation Therapy, Wilderness and Park Management, and Natural Resources Technology – Forestry/Wildlife.
Transferability
The EMS programs are not designed to specifically transfer but instead bolster other program choices. Students will find that individual courses may transfer and apply to future degree choices.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Minnesota North – Vermilion
I furthered my education after VCC to get my paramedic certification. I was on Morse fall Lake Fire Department/First Responder and worked with the Ely Ambulance. While working up here I responded to local residence calls and calls in the Boundary Waters. I’ve had a lot of outdoor experience and worked at a canoe outfitter in Ely as well. My current employer is the Tri-County Health Care and North Memorial Ambulance, where I work as a Paramedic. The outdoor activities that were offered to students & all of the hands-on learning experience is my favorite Vermilion memory.
