TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) serves 1,000 students across the six campuses of Minnesota North. TRIO SSS helps students succeed in their academic to career pathway by providing individualized services to support completion of academic goals and prepares students with skills and knowledge needed for future careers.

TRIO Student Support Services has been serving enrolled students across the college campuses of Minnesota North College since 1987.
The goals of TRIO SSS are to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants, help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next, and motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education to achieve their career and life goals.
Am I eligible for TRIO?
Become a member of TRIO Student Support Services by applying to your home campus.
You may be eligible for TRIO if:
– You are a U.S. citizen. national, or meet the residency requirements for federal student financial assistance
– You have academic need for supportive services
AND meet at least one of the following:
– Neither of your parents graduated from a four-year college with a bachelor’s degree
– You have financial need to attend college
– You have a documented disability
What does TRIO provide?

- Academic tutoring & support
- Financial literacy/advocacy & FAFSA help
- Four-year transfer planning & assistance
- Personal counseling & guidance
- Personal strengths development
- Scholarship & resume assistance
SSSC courses are tuition-free for SSS participants (with tuition-waived at start of semester), although enrolled students are financially responsible for associated fees charged to credit courses. See full details in the semester course schedule or talk with a TRIO advisor.
- Transition to College
- SSSC 1100: Transition to College provides new students with the tools necessary to increase their success in college. It provides information and resources about college orientation and success, financial literacy, and personal success strategies. The class will stress how critical thinking and communication skills play an important role in college success.
- Choosing a Major & Career
- SSSC 1115: Choosing a Major & Career provides students the opportunity to explore personality profiles and to assess interests, values, aptitudes, and skills. Using career selection inventories and classification exercises, students will define goals and plan educational pursuits. Students will also be given the CliftonStrengths for College Students assessment and be paired with a certified CliftonStrengths Coach during the semester.
- Introduction to Personal Finance
- SSSC 1120: Introduction to Personal Finance introduces students to basic money management skills. Learning activities and class discussions provide students with opportunities to apply course content to their personal lives. Through personal reflection and analysis, students will feel empowered to make financial decisions which support their educational, career, and personal goals.
