Program Overview
The Early Childhood Education programs prepares students to create safe, healthy learning environments for children through classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Students develop skills in assessment, positive behavior guidance, curriculum development, working with children who have diverse needs from birth to age 8. This program offers coaching to assist students in navigating career advancement and achieving their professional goals.

Real-world experience.
From the first semester, early childhood students find themselves in classrooms, engaging with children and learning from experienced teachers. Most students are able to experience several different early childhood settings throughout the course of the degree program.
Workforce alignment.
Our programs align with whatever your career goals are as well as the Minnesota Career Lattice which translates to higher wages and more career options. Choose from a CDA-aligned certificate (9 credits), diploma (31 credits) or a choice of two 2-year degrees (AS Transfer Pathway and AAS EC/ECSE 60 credits each).
Learn your way.
Choose from online housed at our Mesabi campus (those working or otherwise unable to attend in person), in person (at Itasca) or synchronous online (through Zoom/Itasca)
Credit for prior learning.
Incoming students who have already earned a CDA credential may be awarded up to 6 college credits toward their next educational goal. And, even if you haven’t obtained a CDA, your work experience in the Early Childhood field may be applied for up to 3 college credits.
